how to breed bosemani rainbow fish

Rainbow fish breeding is not a tricky part. However you need to take care of fries when they are born, extra care is needed because they are so small and can't be fed normal food because they are so small to eat that. Also when rainbow fishes eat their eggs.So you need to protect them.

Setting up aquarium

you can use your main aquarium to go for rainbow fish breeding provided you are having large aquarium with less fishes and lots and lots of hiding places. They another way is that you can make a separate compartment for babies by putting a divider or you can go for breeding box or breeding net.In this case you need to transfer the eggs to separate compartment to protect them.Else you can have another breeding aquarium of about 10 gallon capacity .Set the temperature to 26 degree Celsius.Put the fishes you want to breed in aquarium you have installed.Add spawning mop or java moss which act as spawning site.Add gravels for up to height of 4 inches.Add sponge filter too.

Prepare the fish and spawning

You can give the fish protein rich food.So they can spawn effectively .Live food is best option. You can feed them brine shrimps, mosquito larvae, black worms ,etc.Do partial water changes. When the female will be plump it means she is carrying eggs. They may show other sign also when they are ready to spawning. They may chase each other. The male will move in front and back to attract her.Male will keep its dorsal and anal fin erect to attract the female. Many times the males show intensely dark fin margins. While male is doing this the females decide whether she is ready to go with male or not. Some times males nudge the females pelvic base before actual spawning starts.Spawning generally occurs in morning.

During spawning both fishes point their head in same direction and get nest to each other. Then the female will release eggs they may tremble while doing this.

Eggs

The female may give eggs almost every day during spawning. You should keep an eye on it because they may eat their eggs.Eggs are clear and 2mm in size. They may stick to java moss or spawning mop .Now its your duty to transfer the eggs.Cut the portion of moss or mop which are holding eggs .And put them in other container or breeding box where you want them to grow.Remember don't take out them of water they may get damage.Set the container or breeding box with wall of aquarium so temperature difference is not there. The hatching time is not same for all species. It may go even more then a week or several week.Maintain low light intensity.

Fry care

When fries are born they are about 4 mm long. They may fall down to the surface for 1-2 days. The aeration should be gentle. They have yolk sacs on which they will be dependant for starting days. When they consume it you may feed them infusoria or liquid fry food. When they grow older you can give them brine shrimps and micro worms.Maintain the water quality by feeding only in required amount hat is about 7 times a day.If food is left behind it may spoil the water.Do 20% water changes daily more water change may shock the fry and may kill them.
